Microscopic
identification of the spores/colonies requires
considerable expertise. These services are not
routinely available from commercial laboratories.
Documented quality control in the laboratories
used for analysis of the bulk/surface and air
samples is necessary. The American Industrial
Hygiene Association (AIHA) offers accreditation
to microbial laboratories (Environmental Microbiology
Laboratory Accreditation Program (EMLAP)). Accredited
laboratories must participate in quarterly proficiency
testing (Environmental Microbiology Proficiency
Analytical Testing Program (EMPAT)).
At
the conclusion of each (Asbestos/ Lead Based Paint/
Mold Abatement) project an Industrial Hygienist
from an Independent Hygiene Firm performs a visual
inspection of the work area. Once completed the
Industrial Hygienist then runs an aggressive final
clearance air test. These air tests are then completed
at a laboratory and provided to American Abatement,
Inc.; the owner and various subcontractors with
a carcinogen removed and a work area cleaner than
before we started
and all within budget.
